There is no white horse that is going to come and save your ass
There is no prince or glass slipper or magical kiss
No moment where you are awakened and discovered by eyes that are not your own
Hans Christian Anderson wrote of a fairytale world, you live in reality
No castles or gardens
No bluebirds singing or mice that sew
You have your life…. and a pen
You are your Once Upon a Time
This is your Happily Ever After
You hold it all
The answers, the questions, the dream, the power it is all in you
Placed there like seeds in a pomegranate
Surrounded by flesh that is inconsequential
Dig with a spoon
Cut away with a knife
Get messy
Pray and seek with your hands and fingers
Trying to find the center where it all lives
And just like some prince with a fairytale slipper
Discover yourself, dance with yourself, love yourself
Do not strive for the life of Sleeping Beauty
Caught only dreams waiting for magical lips to set you free
Awaken yourself
Stop taking care of the lives of Dopey, Sleepy, Grumpy people
Clean up your own life, sweep your own floors, get your own house in order
No living underwater swimming and swimming too afraid to land
Stop singing in meadows hoping to be overheard
Use your voice, use your legs
Rise inside from the tide of thoughts and trial and error and moving forward
YOU are the princess
YOU are the prince
You are the Queen… good or evil it is your choice
And to wait for some power outside of yourself to hand you your crown, and give you your throne, and use their scepter to set you free
Is a disservice to them and to yourself
Because inside we hold the makings of our greatest fairytale
